1. I REALLY want to see this. And it's not playing anywhere near me...yet. I'm checking Detroit area movie listings weekly in the hopes that between the independently-focused theatres and the art galleries, somebody will be showing this. It's been awhile since I've been so impressed by a trailer and so drawn to a film. Hunger is Steve McQueen's first film (the Turner Prize-winning, and deservedly so, artist not the deceased actor, of course) and it looks really powerful. Has anyone else ever seen that piece McQueen did with the horse? Amazing.

<lj-embed id="7" />
Fucking Thatcher. Ugh.

2. Can someone please explain the difference between synedoche and metonymy? Even after looking this up, I still can't wrap my head around how these two things are different.

3. I got the job I applied for at the Banff Centre but I am not going to accept. Partly because I don't actually want to move out to Alberta and partly because I sense that other opportunities may arise. I kind of went on my gut feeling about this one so I hope it all works out. I am hoping to be accepted for a week long residency there during the summer but for now, I am staying in Southern Ontario.

4. I've started reading T.S. Eliot "Prufrock and Other Observations" and I was struck by this:

The conscience of a blackened street
Impatient to assume the world.

I am moved by fancies that are curled
Around these images, and cling:
The notion of some infinitely gentle
Infinitely suffering thing.

Some Things:

-+ I always seem to get hit on at my neighborhood Falafel place.

- Harper

+ America's Next Top Model Cycle 12

+ I just finished Gini Sikes' book "8 Ball Chicks: A Year in the Life of Violent Girl Gangs" and, on a whim, I emailed her to tell her how much I admired the book. She actually wrote me back!

+ I went to my hairdresser for a trim and, in a spur of the moment decision, had her cut bangs. I think I like them. The bangs are long enough that I can still pin them back at the gym.

+ I'm unfolding my folding bicycle tonight. Spring is here in Windsor!

- My gluteal muscle is still not healed and I have been suffering periodic bouts of sciatica. The pain is quite unbearable. It literally feels like someone is poking me with a knitting needle inside my calf muscle. My left foot also goes numb sometimes. I've stopped running altogether and am now doing a circuit training program. My chiropractor seems to think it had something to do with hours spent sitting at a computer editing. Soooo, if I was a sculptor, this wouldn't be happening.

+ Craig is going to school next November in Stratford, Ontario. We will be moving there.

+ I recently purchased this pair of Hunter boots in 'Midnight Sparkle" and I am totally in love with them. They retail for $120. I found them at Saks for $79 and decided to buy them. I went up to the counter and the lady informed me that they were 50% off the sale price so I actually ended up paying $40. That was whoo worthy.

I caught this in the most recent issue of Frieze magazine:

"Germans are generally good at turning ordinary labels into insults. A popular curse is Warmduscher, someone who takes warm showers. I've also heard the term Leserbriefschreiber, someone who writes letters to newspapers. teenagers in Berlin's Kruezberg neighborhood use the term opfer or victim, as in: 'Piss off, you fucking victim'."

I am calling for the widespread use of more imaginative insults. Forget the ubiquitous douche, asshole, skank, the next time you meet a particularly abhorrent individual, let loose with "I bet you're someone who takes warm showers" and walk away in disgust.

I was there to attend a workshop but we both also wanted to see and experience the new AGO. The AGO offered free admission all weekend and I knew that, along with Frank Gehry's name, would entice a lot of people. What I didn't expect was 2 hour long wait times and line-ups stretching blocks and blocks. Craig and I decided against standing in line and decided we might be better off trying for another time. I read that 51,800 people showed up!

I have the use of a new, quite spectacular camera. Mostly, I just want someone to agree with me when I write diatribes against Stephen "Dead Eyes" Harper. Oh, and I may pepper in posts about fashion, current events (by this I mean Britney and Mariah), and me! I promise I will try to keep the b-ball talk to a minimum.

Speaking of fashion, these are the images I am using for my Fall fashion inspiration.

Marni Fall 2008 Collection

Kanye West

Much-desired "Chain" scarf from Etsy
